Are you a runner looking to improve your running time?
Here are 3 🔑’s to incorporate into your training that will absolutely make a HUGE difference.
Despite what you might think, improving your time really is possible. I promise you! Even though it might seem impossible, if you incorporate these 3 things into your current and/or next training plan, you will see results.
I'm also going to throw this one out there: Be Kind to yourself. So often we will start to beat ourselves up and start talking to ourselves in a deconstructive way because we're not where we want to be; or we start comparing ourself to others, and then we really start to sink...
I'm telling you right now to knock that sh!$ out! You're doing better then you think you are. You got this!
Here are the 3 Keys: Read them all. They are all equally important!
🔑’ #1 - Strength Train
Strength Train - This is a HUGE piece of the equation. You don’t need to be in the gym for lots and lots of hours either. The best part is if you get in the gym at a minimum of 2x/week with a focused intent on keeping yourself injury free and strengthening your body, you will see some big time improvements.
🔑’ #2 - Speed Work
In order to improve your running time, this is an ESSENTIAL! So often people think to just get out there and run the same amount of distance but just faster… as Dikembe Mutumbo would say “no no no”. You only need to do speed work at a minimum 1x/week. Two of the best would be either interval or tempo training.
‘Speed training helps your body get better at supplying oxygen to your muscles in a more efficient way,’ which will help you improve at any distance." – John Honerkamp, running coach and former head coach at New York Road Runners.
🔑’ #3 - Consistency/Patience
So often we want things to change or happen for us overnight or at a snap of a finger, but in reality when wanting to improve our running time, this is not the case. It’s going to take a lot of time in the street, treadmill, trail, etc… be kind to yourself. Strap in, find a good audio book, podcast, or my favorite nothing in your ears, and stick with it.
Wrapping Up
If you incorporate these 3 things into your current and/or next training plan, you will ABSOLUTELY see results! 💨👍🏼
